So recently I went on a trip to our nation's capital and let me tell you...if you've never been, stop what you're doing and get there like yesterday. While I was there, I planned and styled the wardrobe for a wedding photoshoot. I can't share them just yet, but once I can, I'll share a special blog post dedicated to the day. Until then, I decided I would give y'all some tips on where to say, eat, shop, and what to do while in DC.
where to stay
Kimpton Glover Park | Okay not only was this one of the locations of the shoot, but a seriously gorgeous place to stay. While you're there be sure to head down to their bar/restaurant area for some seriously bohemian vibes and good food.
where to eat
Old Glory BBQ |
where to shop
Francesca's | So I know this is a chain boutique, but I've never been in one until my trip to DC and let me tell you...it was situated in the cutest little building in Georgetown. One you walk in you're immediately greet by a sales associate who helps you throughout the store find just what you're looking for. Plus there were two racks FULL of clothing on sale that were perfect for the spring/summer season.
what to do
Visit the Capitol, Supreme Court, & Library of Congress
what to pack
1. Comfy Shoes/Clothes | This is A MUST when you're exploring Washington DC. You're going to be walking from each museum and monument all day long and let me to ya...DC is HUGE. Rompers, jumpsuits, leggings, and loose fitted dress are going to be your best friend.
2. Light Cardigan | If you go around this time of year (April-May), the temperatures are lower at night and early mornings so carrying a light cardigan is the simplest solution.
4. Portable Charger | Walking around all day taking pictures of the city can kill your phone battery and you most likely won't have time to go back to your hotel to charge your phone. The night before your vacation, charge your portable charger and stick it in your purse for easy access.
6. Cross-body Bag | So it's a no brainer that while DC is a beautiful city, the crime rate is pretty high. My #1 tip is to wear a cross body bag while you're walking around the city otherwise you run the risk of someone coming up behind to steal your wallet from your pocket or backpack. Super serious about this one...I've witnessed it happen! I've linked my favorite bags below!
