The Urban Dictionary definition of a girl boss is: “a woman in control, taking charge of her own circumstances in work and life. A confident, capable woman who pursues her own ambitions instead of working for others or otherwise settling in life.”
While I agree with parts of that definition, I in NO WAY agree that you have to own your own business to be a girl boss. There’s somewhat a negative connotation attached to the words, “girl boss.” I think it’s because it’s used incorrectly sometimes.
Women shouldn’t have to feel pressured to open a business in order to be a total badass babe. I love the term girl boss, but I never want a woman to feel less than because she isn’t a business owner.
The Styled by Becca / Lala Jean Definition Of Girl Boss:
YOU are a girl boss. The mom who stays home with her children. The nurse who works 12 hour shifts. The girl who owns a business. The lawyer who fights to win. The store manager who creates a fun + inviting experience.
You don’t have to own a business or be a millionaire with 6 cars to be a badass woman. As long as you’re happy, confident, and living your best life….you’re a TOTAL girl boss!!
That’s exactly the message I wanted to convey when planning out Lala Jean. My boutique is named after my grandma who’s middle name was Jean. She was always a stay at home mom and a total badass. I just wanted the Lala Jean brand to allow / inspire women to be themselves, have fun in life, and live their most confident selves.
