Life Update: 5 Months After College Graduation
I’ve been meaning to sit down and write this post for so long now, but honestly I haven’t felt confident enough in where I was in life to write it. Let me explain…
A couple months ago in May, I graduated college from Georgia Southern University (like 40 minutes from Savannah). When I graduated, I had no job and no idea where I wanted to go from there. Not even going to lie, the entire summer was super hard for me. My anxiety and depression was no joke. There were people who graduated with me who already had a job and had moved to a new city making good money.
Here I was no job, broke, and living back at home. I’ll admit though, I’m super hard on myself. Like I hate rejection and the thought of failure makes me want to cry. I went to a couple job interviews during the summer in different cities, but never heard any good news back. By the end of June, I was so discouraged and was sure I’d be stuck in my small hometown forever. Although I had walked in May, I wasn’t fully graduated yet. I needed to finish an internship in order to get my diploma. I mean I didn’t work hard for 4 years not to get it.
Fast forward to August, I was getting ready to do a pop up shop for my boutique, Shop Becca. I didn’t really want to do it, because it was on the 4th of July and I was sure that no one would come, but something told me the morning of the pop up to just go and do it. Honestly so glad I did because I met another boutique owner who really needed help with her marketing / social media and I needed a job / internship.
I found out during that internship that marketing and social media for smaller companies was ultimately my passion. Once I figured that out, I started searching jobs and things started to fall into place.
At the end of August, I drove out to Vegas with my brother. He was transferring schools there and since my job was on my phone and computer, I had the freedom to travel a little. I stayed in Vegas for about a month, before I realized that this was exactly where I wanted to be. I mean it literally has everything you could want. Nightlife, shopping, amazing food, and so many fun things that are only a couple hours away. #1 being Disneyland. ;)
My brother’s school sent an email out about a company in Vegas looking to hire a social media coordinator. So I emailed them expecting it to be just another dead end like the others, but I received an email back the next day that they wanted to set up an interview. Long story short, I went through a couple more interviews and a couple weeks ago, I officially accepted the job and I start tomorrow!! I’ll be doing marketing / social media for some shows on the strip.
Long story short, if you’re about to graduate, don’t get too worried. These next couple months in your life are going to be stressful. You’re going to make mistakes, lose friends, and may fee the loneliest you’ve ever felt, but just know that good things are coming. Take some time off and celebrate the fact that you just GRADUATED COLLEGE!!
